The sudden drop in temperature on Tuesday night made for a perfect opening evening at Pier 1&2 for the Wool Modern Exhibition – A Celebration of Wool in the 21st Century. Designed to showcase the very best in fashion design with the use of wool, the exhibition presented a variety of garments made by internationally acclaimed designers, as well as our home-grown Aussie talent.

Final Episode

It takes a certain kind of fearlessness to completely transform your life but that’s something that Seema Duggal, a former journalist now online boutique owner has in spades. An acrimonious split from Oyster magazine prompted Seema to not only re-evaluate her writing project Side Street, Sydney but also launch Final Episode. Fast-forward a year later however and the Sydney lifestyle has been traded for the seclusion of Avoca Beach, the furs have been ditched in favour of vintage pieces and she’s even become a vegetarian. Final Episode remains but the vision has sharpened.

DIY Rope Necklace

Bright rope necklaces are easy to wear and surprisingly simple to make. Soft stretchy cords are ideal for this project and can be purchased from most fabric or craft stores. Once you get the hang of the braiding technique, try experimenting with thicker cords or patterned climbing rope. Keep in mind that the thicker the cord, the more you will need. For long necklaces, start with at least 4 metres of cord and see how you go.

Street Shopping in Newtown (South)

Where else but Newtown would you find a knitting café or a shop dedicated to buttons amongst some of the best vintage shopping in Sydney. Once the lonely end of town, south King Street is now dotted with wonderful boutiques, retro finds and cheerful cafés. Following up from our north Newtown shopping guide, here are our favourites south of Newtown station.
