Fashion Week Frenzy – The Essentials You Need For The Week Ahead!

Ahhh yes, the weekend before Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia has finally arrived! As thoughts of all the designers adding their last minute touches to their collections conjure up in my mind, I am left smiling from ear to ear with sheer excitement! It’s just something about Fashion Week that sends the streets of Sydney into an electric buzz. From the stellar line up for this year’s shows to the new talent that’s sure to be a hit, Fashion Week brings that little something extra as we take to the streets and strut with style to preview the upcoming collections from our favourite fashionistas!

This year, the On The Streets Of Sydney team will be covering Fashion Week in full force! There will be wrap-ups, coverage and street style photographs uploaded everyday, so we’ll be sure to keep you ALL in the loop with who to keep your eye out for this season!

As we’ll be flat out with fashion reporting for five full days (FASHION! Turn to the left. FASHION! Turn to the right. Oooooo, FASHION!), I thought I’d ask the team what their ‘Fashion Week essentials’ were that they dare not leave the house without. Even with the glitz and glamour, runway shows and red carpet moments, (don’t you just love Fashion week!?), the team at On The Streets Of Sydney needs to be in top form so we can deliver the very latest Fashion Week goss to all of you, our loyal fans and followers! So, be sure to keep an eye out for us…

Our Fashion Editor Hayley says that the biggest factor in her planning for the week ahead is in finding a bag that will hold all her belongings but still ‘look good’. Well, she finally found it! “In a cheap and cheerful boutique in China Town I found this fantastic bag in which I can carry ALL of my essential fashion week items: my freakin’ heavy SLR, On The Streets Of Sydney business cards, my vintage gold glomesh purse, my neon pink make-up bag and Marc Jacobs smiley face mirror for touch ups on the go, my Karen Walker Super Duper sunnies, my Prada LG phone (there’ll be plenty of instagramming from the front row!) and, a purse packet of tissues for the inevitable ‘Fashion Week Flu’ that dawns upon us as the week draws to a close!” Oh the glamour, *cough cough*!

Our Senior Features Editor Lucinda will have a notebook and pen with her at all times! “It’s essential to have somewhere to draw quick sketches and something to jot down notes before they swirl away. I’ll also be carrying moisturiser, emergency safety pins and something to snack on between shows!”

Our Contributing Fashion Editors Monica and Basilia will both be seen at the shows with their iPad in hand and comfortable yet statement shoes. Mon says she wouldn’t be able to live without her iPad during Fashion Week. “I can barely survive without it in real life and it will be super handy at ‘Fash Week’ as I’ll be able to do live updates and be on top of what everyone is reporting! I also have an array of gorgeous iPad cases and MBFWA will be the perfect place to show them off!” Basilia says that wearing statement shoes “always completes an outfit and they are good conversation starters. They even have the power to attract the lens of Tommy Ton!”

Our Beauty Editor Sofie will be carrying all her essential items in her too-cute-for-words denim backpack. “You’d be bonkers to go without a backpack this Fashion Week to carry all your essentials. It’s also perfect for those who aren’t brave enough to rock a 90′s revival fanny pack just yet!”

Our Menswear Editor Terry will be sure to keep his diary in close reach at all times! “Planning and preparation is a must. You need to allocate time and priorities to make attending the shows a valuable professional experience.”

Our Features and Editorial Photographer Jessi will be donning her ever-fabulous Hugo Boss watch to make sure she’s always on time! “Running between shows and venues means I have to time everything down to the very last second. I need to make sure I’m present for all of the amazing moments during MBFWA so that I can share them with our devoted On The Streets of Sydney readers – I wouldn’t want to miss a thing!”

Our Street Style and Features Photographer Vanessa will be spotted with her camera and her infinitely trendy bum-bag. “My hands need to be free to shoot so everything needs to be accessible, which is why my little bag is worth its weight in gold. It is also the perfect size to house some of my other MBFWA essentials - spare camera battery; extra instax film; On the Streets of Sydney business cards; spare memory card; phone; an apple for munching between shows; my 50mm f/1.4 lens; and my red lipstick!”

And your Junior Features Editor Rebecca (me!), will be seen with her Michael Kors tote in hand, complete with a notepad and pen to scribble down all the words of inspiration which will surely be bombarding my mind from the very first show of the week! My gorgeous MK handbag, courtesy of my parents’ recent trip to Hawaii (thanks Mum!), will compliment each of my outfits whilst also storing my On The Streets Of Sydney business cards, some nibbles for the day and my trusty iPhone for some instagram shots!

I hope you’re all ready for one fashion-packed week! Remember to check back in daily to On The Streets Of Sydney for wrap-ups and plenty of behind the scenes action!

For now though, make sure you have a good night’s sleep, pack your bag with the essentials, plan your outfits the night before (you don’t want to be running late in the morning!) and get ready to be blown away by the talent and the new collections for the season ahead.

So, are you ready for Fashion Week?

I know I am.

See you in the front row!
