Despite their possibility of being seen as the most intricate and customised detail of a designer’s repertoire, we often forget their power to both transform and enhance an outfit. The beauty looks displayed at this year’s Rosemount Australian Fashion Week were as trendsetting as the outfits the models were wearing. Like the clothes displayed, we also saw in hair and make-up: pops of colour, flirtatious nudes and daring shapes. It’s not unusual for street wear collections to infuse a little Americana into their clothes but when two cult labels do it in the same season you have to wonder whether there’s something in the water. From vintage denim at Stolen Girlfriends Club to cowboy boots at Saint Augustine Academy, RAFW went a little western but with a lot of flair. These are the clothes we’ll be coveting when the weather heats up - perfect for soaking up the summer festivals or whiling away the evenings with tousled hair.
