The Look

Folksy

July 13th, 2011 by by | 4 Comments

On the coldest day of the year so far its time to snuglle up and get warm with layers of folksy goodness. Think embroidery, navajo inspired knits and shearling vests all worn mish-mashed together as wonderful winter warmers that both warm your body and your heart.

Winter Preserves

June 8th, 2011 by by | 4 Comments

The chilly season has just begun however as we pull out the extra blankets, get the kettle ready for the boil and find ourselves sentimentally listening to ‘Here Comes the Sun’ by the Beatles whilst it buckets down outside, it doesn’t mean that colour has to go into hibernation the same way we want to join the bears and sleep in until Spring comes around. Winter is a time for the most delectable colours to emerge - of fireplaces and berry preserves, of mulberry and strawberry jams; orange marmalade; honey with cinnamon sticks and currents and gooseberries. So as the days grow colder, and before you grab the black coat and navy scarf, why not consider embracing the colours of the winter season?

Mori Gyaru (Forest Girl)

June 1st, 2011 by by | 8 Comments

The Mori Gyaru, or Forest Girl style has been developing a cult like following on the streets of Tokyo (as all good looks do over there). The look is all about being at one with nature, with the wearer looking as if they have just stepped out of a forest. Think neutral tones, lots of layers, baggy cuts, embroidery and fringing. The trend has even spawned mutations with the new Swamp Girl look (Numa Gyaru) becoming popular for girls who enjoy the Mori Gyaru style but for all the wrong reasons. Here is part one of our look inspired by the Numa Guyaru manifesto as posted on Mixi (Japanese social networking site)

New Romanticism

February 14th, 2011 by by , and | 1 Comment

“Is this the generation of love? Hot blood, hot thoughts and hot deeds? Why, they are vipers.” – Troilus & Cressida, William Shakespeare.

We have lost our way in love. From Bieber Fever to Warney the nature of romance seems very misguided. This Valentine’s Day, look to where it all began. Look to Romanticism.

Back to Black

January 27th, 2011 by by , and | 8 Comments

modern goth

Calling all fashion fiends and closet goths. If you’re like me and have the tendency to stick with dark tones or more specifically black attire but have been getting frustrated at sticking with perhaps more basic combinations then you would like, look no further. Wearing all black doesn’t have to be boring! Forget about your converse sneakers, indie band tees and skinny jeans - this modernised look is all about mixing textures, adding layers, adding statement accessories and killer footwear and don’t forget to add a rich purple lips like we have which will help to brighten up the dark look.

White Heat

January 19th, 2011 by by , and | 2 Comments

Summer showed up fashionably late to the party this year, but now that it’s here it’s dying to be heard. When the mercury gets this high it can be hard to find sartorial inspiration. My advice? Stick to the Summer classic - white, and get creative. Layer light textured fabrics, or do the unexpected by wearing knits and long pants; Summer doesn’t have to just be about little dresses and ripped shorts.

Hippy Fest

January 11th, 2011 by by , and | 2 Comments

It’s that time of year again, Music Festival season, and if like me you enjoy listening to good bands with a bunch of good friends, well, then your about to see more fake fur legwarmers and fairy wings than anyone ever really should. Yes, music festivals bring out the worst dressers in the country and plonks them all in the electro tent. To counter this visual horror why not dress in your Woodstock best?

Delicate Pastels

Cotton candy pink, baby blue, lilac and mint green: no longer is the world monochromatic nor does your wardrobe have to be! Perfect for summer, pair loose fitting tees with long maxi skirts or a tailored lilac top with high waisted  baby pink trousers and jelly sandals - it’s all about letting loose and making fashion fun again! But most importantly don’t forget to accessorise.

Australiana

December 20th, 2010 by by , and | 1 Comment

I love a sun-burnt country. Growing up, my family seemed to be on a never ending chase to soak up all Australia has to offer – and it really stuck with me. The beaches, the deserts, the forests, the mountains; drop me off anywhere and my heart will swell with pride and contentment.

Androgyny

December 7th, 2010 by by , and | 8 Comments

The notion of androgyny has been a constant in fashion since the industrial revolution. When Yves Saint Laurent introduced Le Smoking in the spring 1967, everything changed again. Think Helmut Newton’s black and white images of a young woman, cigarette in hand, hair slicked back and wearing a man’s three piece suit.
